Background:

Location: Corner of Rowntree St and Darling St Balmain

Name: ‘Hot Pink in Balmain Apartments’

Description of pre-design condition of interior/building:

An empty Building Heritage retail on street level with 6 floors above to design.

I choose floor 5 and I created 3 apartments, a wow factor.

Client brief/client requirements: The client is an overseas developer to engage a local Australian designer.

Concept

My concept for this project is ship in the bottle and pink oceans (in Western Australia), and reflection on a cloudy day.

The special feature is the apartments are pink with a Nordic colour palette with curtain walls and a panelled wooden ceiling sustainable materials such as wood.

This design:

  • Functional

  • A unique floor plate with a cultural influence that is local vernacular

  • Environmentally friendly with natural building materials

  • Looking at local and or international housing for inspiration

  • Framing the outdoor views urban environment ensure the clients can engage with their surrounding context and enjoy the light at different times of the day.

  • Practising environmentally sustainable design principles

  • Retaining the original charm of the apartment

  • Strive for a calm, transcending effect

  • Creating a more spacious dining room with views of Balmain as well as city and harbour views
